The World Peace Project

Welcome to the world peace project

Hi, and welcome to The World Peace Project. This site is dedicated to finding a way to achieve a lasting world peace here on Earth. For many centuries mankind has been at war amongst it's various tribes for seemingly as many reasons as there are people on this planet. Typical reasons for war include (but are not limited to) Religious Doctrine, Racism, Ownership of Land, Basic philisophical or theological differences, hatred of a relative or previous friend, and so on.

None of these reasons, of course, have any validity whatsoever.

Why World Peace?

Why not? We have had plenty of war and violence to go around, why not try a few thousand years of relatively peaceful times? I mean, it's not like we don't already have enough weapons to kill everyone on this planet several times over in case we get bored during our peace and want to go back to killing anything and everything that moves... so, why not just try peace, EVEN IF JUST FOR A FEW MINUTES!

So the idea behind this site is to start collecting ideas on what and how a world of peace might be achieved. Can we start among our friends, spread that to a small community, and begin to grow our communities until they encompass the entire earth? Can we maintain some coherence amongst the diversity in this world enough to overcome our differences and build loving and thriving communities instead around our similarities and collective desires?

And... can we do this without the world becoming some sort of collective borg, where everyone thinks and acts the same or so similar that all sense of wonder, beauty, and creativity seems to have been squeezed out of mankind?

Is this possible? We want to find out. That's what this site is all about.

The Founder Of This Site Wants To Tell You Something My name is Roy Hughes. I have, through my short, tumoltous life, been accused of many things, chief among them that I am an Idealist, a "dreamer"; that my ideas and thoughts, however altruistic, are just too Pollyanish for this world. That humankind is somehow too dark, depraved, evil, too whatever, for there to be any kind of hope for a better world. I disagree wholeheartedly!

You can call me what you will, but I do not wish to change my opinion in this one particular area. I still have a high esteem for what the potential of mankind can be. In my own experience I have witnessed myself and others directly around me go through huge transformative shifts in consciousness, and the results were encouraging. If we, as individuals and small groups, can go through radical transformations and hopefully become more Loving and tolerant human beings, than others can too, if they so desire.

So How Will This Work? So my initial idea is that I will jot down a few ideas I have about what my concept of World Peace is... what it means to have it or aspire towards it. I may include references or quotes from other humans or even higher beings that have had a few words to say about the subject. I may try to tie these ideas together, or summarize them, or something along those lines.

I will not just use my own brain or ideas, of course. I am but one tiny human in a vast sea of really smart and creative other humans. So I will invite input from all of you, the readers or visitors to this site; I will be setting a bidirectional blog and note-collecting system to that end in the near future. I will invite you to become members of this community, and those that wish to have more of a voice into how this website and underlying organization operates can become regular contributors to this site. We can have real, physical, in-the-flesh meetings. We can do things as a group; build real communities. Test our theories. Keep the ideas that work, toss the ones that don't. This whole idea is just a work in progress, after all. There will much to do, and who knows how long this will take? Years? Lifetimes? Mellinia?
I have no idea. I just want to start somewhere. This site is that somewhere. I hope there will be much more to come.

Past Ideologies That Sort Of Worked Humankind has been around for a while now. There have been times of great wars, but luckily, there have also been some times of relative peace. I am interested in studying those times; of being a student to history as it demonstrates ideals or philisophical undertakings that seemed to have contributed to periods of times where there was not a whole lot of killing going on. We can start there, and take what seems to have worked and see if it can be put into a context appropriate to now.

What sorts of political structures have worked? Which ones have not? What were the issues that led to the collapse or failure of each of the failing systems? Was there anything that could be learned that might be useful or good to apply in our quest to do better now? Or, should some of these systems just be trashed summarily because they were too aggressive, or totalitarian, or had some other gaping flaws?

The Big Picture There are a lot of things that work on a small scale that don't work so well when they are applied to larger scales. And conversely, there may be things that work on a macrocosmic level that don't scale down to smallness so well. There may be some elemental truths about bigness or smallness that cannot be ignored.

It should, however, be noted, that nature herself seems to scale nicely. The insides of Atoms actually have a very striking resemblance in both form and behavior to what we think of as Galaxies. Indeed, recently science has been revealing that the entire Universe seems to have some sort of order to it. And what appears to be chaos, is simply some kind of complex, yet simple, logic. So the answer to how to make a scaleable peaceful society is probably surrounding us and staring us in the face, even as I write this; Nature is just waiting for us to discover her secrets and apply them in a direct sense to our lives.
